How to Elevate Your Mood with Food For the most part, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super healthy and good for you. There are several foods that, when you consume them, can better your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try some of these. Eggs, you might be astonished to discover, are wonderful at battling depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you elevate your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Consume an egg and feel a lot happier! Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all good for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a super source of protein. Cold water fish are good if you would like to feel happier. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood. Some grains are really great for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can truly help to better your mood. Feeling famished can actually make you feel awful! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place. Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You already knew that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also! You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try these tips instead!
