Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better Most of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, could better your mood. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out some of these. Eggs, you might be amazed to find out, are terrific at fighting depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the egg yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try eating some eggs to feel better! Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein source. If you wish to overcome depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression. It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping raise your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. Feeling hungry can be awful! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood. Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you know green tea can help improve your mood also! So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try some of these instead!
