How to Boost Your Mood with Food Many of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we should stay away from them. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to consume. There are several foods that, when you eat them, can better your mood. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, test out some of these. Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at beating back depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Every time you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Consume an egg and feel a lot better! Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a great protein source. Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to battle depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression. It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping increase your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel famished! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods quicker than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise. Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you consume green tea. And now you know green tea can help raise your mood as well! So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try several of these instead!
