Foods That Make Your Mood Better In general, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that really can boost your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a couple of these. Eggs, you might be surprised to find out, are wonderful at battling depression. Just see to it that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Eat an egg and feel happier! Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a superb source of protein. Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression. Some grains are truly excellent for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can really bring you down! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods faster than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise. Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel so much healthier. And now you know green tea can help improve your mood as well! As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
