Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood Many of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we ought to avoid them. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be extremely healthy and good for you. There are several foods that, when you eat them, can better your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these. Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you battle depression. Just see to it that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, especially the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Try consuming a few eggs to cheer up! Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all great for raising your mood. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to bettering your mood, can be a great source of protein. Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood. It’s not difficult to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you have a happier mood. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can really bring you down! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy for your body to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place. Green tea is fantastic for moods. You just knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You knew that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well! Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
