Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better For the most part, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and should be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to consume. There are some foods that basically can boost your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try some of these. Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Try eating a few eggs to cheer up! Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for raising your mood. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that tells the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a superb source of protein. Cold water fish are good if you would like to be in a better mood. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression. It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling hungry can truly make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood. Green tea is truly great for your mood. You were just expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood also! Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
